Noob joins the ranks

Alright lads

I've arrived here following a link in the sig of Moose on RSC, thanks for that Moose.

Hope you don't mind me dropping in, my name is Dave Williamson but have loitered with intent on more fora than I care to mention under the handle of Davey Willo, I have used said pseudonym since way back when I was racing with the UKGPL crowd many years ago..

I am a mad racing sim fan and have loved it since GPL hooked me big time last century but have never really found anything to compare since. I dropped out of the scene for a couple of years but have come back just recently and I'm hoping that nkpro and a good bunch of people to race against can recreate what GPL used to give me.

To tell the truth I've had nk for a few months now but just couldn't get any satisfaction out of it. I couldn't work out what you guys were raving about. So off I went racing GTR2 (which I've thoroughly enjoyed BTW) but kept getting drawn back to the nkpro forum on RSC hoping to glean something from there, hoping like mad that I could find what some people were so excited about, well I think I've finally found it, a new G25, a change of FOV and a d/loaded setup for the F2000 at Aviano and bugger me if I wasn't suddenly getting 'it'..

So, here I am, looking to join up and hopefully help fill the grid a bit if you didn't mind me joining your server whenever possible, I'm not the fastest but I race cleanly which I reckon is the most important skill to learn first, I'll try to be an alien later..

I'd also like to ask for advice, tips, set-ups etc as I'm really a complete noob at the game, I've done some laps at Aviano in the F2000 but the best I can do with the set-up I have and my limited ability is a 1.34.233 which is a miiiile away from what the front runners are doing I know but as I say I'm new so do expect to improve given the time and opportunity.

I've d/loaded Spa, Silvy, Montreal and Monaco tracks but can't find Zandvoort or Monza.

I'd love some race set-ups that you guys use for all tracks for the F2000 (<- I'm liking this car at the moment) if you would be so kind to send me some and then I intend to go and practise my arse off so that I won't be a mobile chicane when I finally get the opportunity to race with you.. Assuming you'll let me in that is...

I'm available most evenings for racing, be it league stuff or just good fun, maybe if you could let me know which tracks you race most and the times I need to attain to be competitive with you all then those are the tracks that I'll concentrate on so that I'm ready to go sooner rather than later.

Heres hoping I can run a lap or two with you guys and sorry for the long intro.

Hi Dave and welcome

Glad to hear your getting "it" now Having recently returned to nKPro myself with a machine that can actually run it properly , and taking part in my first league race for a while last night, i realised again that there's nothing quite as good as nKPro IMO. It's got that certain X factor that's missing from everything else, for me anyway.

I'm sure we can help you out and point you in the right direction with setups etc. Between us we use a wide variety of sets so I'm sure we can find you something to suit your style

Zandvoort is only available to GPC league members (sign up, you know you want to http://www.gpchampionship.com/gpcos/ ) Monza isn't released yet, but again it will probably only be for GPC members for the time being.

Our server, when its up, is usually concentrated on the next GPC event, but I'm sure it wont take much persuasion to get a few random races together

Hey Dave, and welcome to our forum

Stu pretty much said it all there so I´ll just confirm that you should definitely join GPC. The pre-qualifying sessions before the races are a whole lot of fun, even if you don´t have the pace needed to attend the races yet. And there´s a whole bunch of people to compare your lap times with and ask for setup tips, plus the added bonus of getting the tracks not released to the public

You should check out videos posted at Youtube by LiquidSquid. Since you brought up Aviano, he´s made a Beginners guide to Aviano too.

I´ll write some general driving tips here when I get my thoughts gathered. The most important ones are: practise, practise and practise some more

About the server, keep an eye out on the "Lastplace Server" -thread. Tjeerd always announces when the server is open.

As Jaap often takes a while to validate accounts, if you download Zandvoort I'll let you have the password and maybe you'd like a few laps. I see a server up with the f2000 (DS Speedway)
