I think I mentioned earlier somewhere that since I started using the software my new workplace supplied for remote access from home, I've been getting boot problems with XP. I think I solved those.

Brought the computer into work here yesterday and the IT people say it's fine. It's not.

nKP is still acting up. I ran Spybot, defragmented the disk and the registry, and cleaned the disk and the registry. But until yesterday nKP would suddenly crash. Yesterday it didn't crash after the registry defrag and clean. But if it does again, I don't think I should race Aviano.

Anyway, nKP is also giving erratic frame rates, with a really brief crackling sound or static sometimes associated with the fps hiccups.

If my external hard drive EVER arrives, I guess I'll just save everything and do a complete XP and nKP reinstall. But it won't arrive until next week sometime.

Any ideas anyone?
Have you tried rebooting yet? Tongue

Check the Processes tab in Task manager, see if any process is getting lots of processor time which could cause the fps and sound problems in nKPro. If the new software has some process running all the time, that could be one to look at. Also running nKPro in a window (I know, sounds bad Tongue) and having the task manager open at the same time could do to see if it´s some process causing the fps drops.

Thanks Juha - will try when I get home.
Indeed, in task manager, sort the list by clicking the top of the CPU and Memory columns and check for any unusual services.

When sorted by CPU 'system idle process should be at the top, and any other processes with highg numbers is going to be curious.

With XP there are relativley few services that are essential, compared to Vista so it should be easier to spot any rouge entries, and hopefully eliminate them.

Grab a screenshot if your not sure and we can have a look

Thanks Stan - will let you know.

BTW, looks like you got Bernardo kicked out at RSC! Cool Loved that post.
Glad to help
The Processes tab was the key. Norton Ghost was using a lot of resources in the tab, which reminded me that Ghost used to slow me up in the past. So I removed it, and now nKP runs fine.

I also changed the Priority for nKP in the processes tab from Below Normal (seemed to be its default priority) to High. Don't know if that helped or not.

So thanks Juha and Stan.

BTW - I then went out with a Zandvoort Taloc setup which I tailored to Aviano and set a PB by .5 sec!!!!
